BIRCH BACK ON TRACK BROTHER BROADLINK KTM’S DE WET WINS E2 CLASS AT KEI NATIONAL

Ducati Panigale 1199 Launch in Durban last night was great - Corlisa very happy with her new Panigale...

AUDI AG acquires sports motorcycle manufacturer Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.

International Motorcycles S.p.A, a subsidiary of the Investindustrial Group (“Investindustrial”), has today agreed to the sale of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A (“Ducati”) to Audi AG, part of the Volkswagen Group. The acquisition is subject to antitrust clearance. Ducati, founded in 1926 and based in Borgo Panigale (Italy), is a leading motorcycles designer and manufacturer which boasts a rich racing heritage in the MotoGP World Championship and the Superbike World Championship.

De Wet and Mahoney victorious at Humansdorp

Another nail biting round of the South African National Enduro Championship took place this past weekend in the Humansdorp area in the Eastern Cape where previous National Enduro champion Altus de Wet (Brother Broadlink KTM) set the pace, taking the overall win as well as the E2 class win.

The race consisted of a loop of approx. 57 km's that competitors had to complete four times. The first lap was a regularity stage only and had to be completed within a certain time whereas lap two, three and four included two special stages each. Brother Broadlink KTM's Mahoney started third but quickly took over the leading position in the first 10 km's, trying to pull a gap on the rest of the field. The majority of the riders lost time at a deep river crossing that had to be negotiated, resulting in most of the competitors being penalised for arriving late as they wasted too much time on the regularity stage. Organisers quickly realised that they had to take action and took the deep river section out from lap two in order to avoid bottlenecks and riders drowning their bikes.

The special stages were now important. De Wet, despite starting at the back of the field due to a DNF at the first race and getting stuck at bottle necks all day, delivered some great times on the special stages, taking the overall win at the Humansdorp National Enduro as well as the E2 class win. De Wet was followed by an excited Comsol Bell Alfie Cox KTM youngster Scott Bouverie who finished on the podium for the first time and took second place in the E2 class. The last spot on the podium was taken by Brother Broadlink KTM's Louwrens Mahoney who also won the highly contested E1 class, making it another 1-2-3 finish for the Austrian manufacturer KTM. Mahoney is now leading the National Enduro Series after extending his lead in the National Offroad Championship at the recent Caledon 400 race in the Western Cape.

"I was happy with my riding and fitness considering the position from which I had to start every lap. I had lots of slow riders in front of me every racing stage and gut stuck in bottlenecks. I gave 100% all day to try not to loose too much time in the racing sections. My KTM 250 XCF-W ran perfectly all day. My pit crew was amazing.", said a delighted De Wet.

Brother Broadlink KTM's Riaan van Niekerk finished 5th in the E2 class, while his team mate Darryl Curtis rounded off the podium in the E1 class in third place. Multiple SA champions Brian Capper (Red Bull KTM) and Gray Dick (Brother Broadlink KTM) finished 5th and 6th in the Open class. Reigning champion Chris Birch (Comsol Bell Alfie Cox KTM) had to retire from the race due to a previous injury.

Competitors are now looking forward to the third round of the National Offroad Championship, the Kalahari 400 taking place in the Vryburg area on 27 and 28 April.

Results currently under protest.
